New Month, New Cause
For the month of August, every check-in at Live Oak will provide a brick to help build a school in Senegal. We’re working with Causely and buildOn to make it happen. You can add #bricks4schools when you check in to promote the cause. For more information about this month’s cause, check out www.buildon.org.

If you are new to Live Oak, plan to attend our next Starting Point class on August 25th. We try to make it easy and hold the class on Sunday morning during our second service in the Connections Cafe. This class will go over who we are, what we believe, and our vision. It gives you the opportunity to learn all about us and how you can get connected! Immediately after the class, lunch will be served at our Ministry Center (14 Palmetto Way). Be sure to register below!
Fast and Friendly (09.07.19)
Ladies, on a Sunday morning do you ever think, I sure wish I knew more of the women who attend Live Oak? Here’s your chance! Join us at Lawton Station Amenities Center (10 Lakes Crossing, Bluffton) on Saturday, September 7th, at 7:00pm, for fellowship that will include plenty of snacks and silliness. Come laugh with and learn about other women in a fast paced, non-threatening manner, as we kick off our fall schedule!
Why Volunteer for Family Promise?
At least twice a year we ask you to help out with our partners Lowcountry Presbyterian Church for Family Promise. Why should you get involved? How can you get involved?
Family Promise is a program that provides temporary housing in areas that do not have shelters for homeless families. The families must have children under the age of 18 to qualify and go through an intensive background check. During the 90 days the families are in the program, they turn over all of their financial resources to Family Promise, and go to life skills classes, including budgeting, resume writing and interview skills.
During the program the families are housed around Beaufort county by various churches. This is where we come in! Lowountry Presbyterian houses the families. Live Oak acts as a support congregation. What this means is that we need to provide dinner 8 nights and sleep at the church as a “chaperone” 8 nights per year. 8 times, that’s it!
You can get your house church together to cook a great family style meal, or just bring in some pizza! The families don’t really care, they just want to be accepted for who they are, fed a good meal, and loved on! Ninety-five percent of the families that graduate the Family Promise program are successful in maintaining jobs and homes! That is a great return rate.
As for the chaperone part, it’s even easier! You sleep in a real bed with your own bedding! Spend the evening holding a baby, having a conversation, playing with a toddler or just listening to a teenager talk about their day. Once everyone is in their rooms for the night, you can play video games, read, or sleep! Super easy!
Don’t you want to be a part of this #realcommunity that can make some #radicallifechange in someone’s life? Our next opportunity to serve is coming up September 15-28. If you want more information about serving with this program, contact Judy Frost at email@example.com. She will be glad to give you any information you need!
So then, each of us will give account of himself to God. Romans 14:12
