Compassion is in our DNA at Live Oak. We currently give about 12% of our budget to our compassion partners throughout the year. We have both local and global partners. Here's some updates on a few of our local partners.
Kairos Prison Ministry - The Spring walk was cancelled due to a statewide lockdown of all of the correctional facilities. Recently the Ridgeland facility has started releasing their dorms. It should take about a month to be back up to normal operations. If all goes well the Fall walk will be November 8 - 11, 2018.
If you are interested in learning more about Kairos and how you can get involved there is a informational breakfast scheduled for August 4th at 8:30am at the Golden Corral in Bluffton. You can also reach out to Andre Nougaret, Bob Keane, or Tony Daniels.
Young Lives - The moms, babies, and mentors left this week for camp in North Carolina! This amazing place is filled with volunteers who are there for the soul purpose of showing these girls the love of Jesus through service, laughter and adventure. They will hear the gospel from the camp speaker each night but will see the gospel as meals are prepared and served to them, their babies are loved and cared for, the activities are planned and executed with excellence. This is expected to be the Best Week of Their Lives because our hope is they will head home with a new relationship with Jesus. Will you keep them in prayer as mentors build relationships with them and earn the right to talk about deep, hard life issues and help these teen moms process who God is and how much He loves them?!?! Will you pray for sweet peaceful rest for the babies as they are in a new place? Will you join in praying for energy and stamina for the staff, volunteers, childcare workers and mentors? Will you pray for open hearts and ears to hear for the teen moms? Will you pray for incredible fun?!?!
Family Promise - We just completed a full two week rotation with Low Country Presbyterian Church. Thank you to all who volunteered to cook and serve meals and also to spend the night!
Family Promise is a nationwide program that assists homeless families with shelter, food, and job opportunities. The portion that we are involved with in Beaufort County is shelter and food. Nationwide Family Promise served over 4,000 families in 2017. Of the 4,000 families, there were 8,000 children served. Fifty nine percent of the families served found permanent housing after completing the program! If you haven't participated in serving at Family Promise yet, make plans to help during our next rotation in October! If you have questions contact Judy Frost!
Back to School
Be sure to bring in school supplies for the month of July! Let's help get the kids in Bluffton off on the right foot this year! One out of 5 kids do not have access to basic school supplies because of their family's economic circumstances. Studies have shown that kids without school supplies are more likely to have lower attendance rates, do poorly in school, and eventually drop out. Let's make a difference again this year! #recklessgenerosity
Back to SchoolCommunity Event
