Live Oak Family,
As the summer is upon us I thought it would be a perfect time to update everyone on a few “big pieces” floating around the Live Oak leadership these days. Please take a very important 5 minutes to read through this e-update to stay informed.
In April a group of 12 to 15 people comprised of staff, elders, and volunteers, met with a team from Intentional Churches for 2 days of celebrating, evaluating, and planning. Out of that two day experience, 2 major areas of concern were targeted for the church to focus on: maximizing our temporary facilities, and creating/clarifying systems to better engage and involve people at Live Oak. Two “WIN” teams have been tasked with exploring these areas and putting forth ideas/suggestions to the leadership on how we can do better in our rented space, and what we need to improve upon in leading and discipling people. I’ll be updating everyone about this process on June 12 during our weekend services, focusing the teaching on our vision and plan moving forward in 2016 and beyond.
At the beginning of 2016 the leadership vetted a few different groups to help us raise funds toward a future home. This process has been slow, but healthy, as we’ve waited on the results of the strategic planning teams to help us focus the needs of a capital campaign. It is our desire to launch a campaign this fall. More details will come on this throughout the summer as the strategic plan WIN teams conclude their work.
Seeing the church - the people - come along side the ministry and partner with us is both crucial to the health and success of our church. Seeing people serve in their areas of strength and pitch in to get things done that need to be done are vital to the stability and growth that we hope to see. If you are currently partnering with us as a volunteer in any ministry area, THANK YOU; if you’re interested in helping out, we would love welcome you to the team! Please make sure you are communicating your summer schedules to make sure all of our bases are covered. You can find out more about partnering with us online.
The months of June, July, and August are always the most financially difficult time of our year. With people coming and going, money being spent on trips and out of town visitors, it is understandable that giving to the church slips people’s minds. In order for us to continue to do ministry, the financial need of the church is $10,000 per week. Over the last month, the average giving has been below $8,000/week. If you are going to be out of town or if you’re generosity plan varies through the summer, please consider giving your tithes/offerings through our online service. It is secure, simple, and greatly appreciated. To give online, simply follow this link.
Did you know that the average church-going family in America only attends church 1.7 times per month? That means that from week to week, with around 300 people attending every Sunday, Live Oak sees over 500 different people “regularly” throughout a month. Often trying to plan services and pull off ministry is affected by that number. While church attendance does not equal spiritual maturity, it does affect community. When you’re in town we’d love to see you on Sunday mornings!
The first Monday of every month is a day of fasting and prayer for our church. Please keep it up - we need you and your heart investment at Live Oak!
As always, it is an honor to serve as your Pastor. Thank you for being a part of our family and for loving this ministry. Where we go largely depends on you; I’m excited to see how the summer and fall unfolds!
