New Compassion Partners

Live Oak is happy to announce we have a new compassion partner in Nigeria!  The Miles family has been on an incredible journey with the people of Nigeria. They joined SIM in August 2013 who had partnered with Samaritan’s Purse for a large construction project to rebuild parts of the Egbe Hospital in Nigeria, West Africa. For 3 1/2 years Lenny managed the project while Patrice managed the office, guesthouse, Spring of Life HIV/AIDS clinic and started a ministry called C.A.R.E. Africa. God is turning another chapter in their lives as they transition to Jos, Nigeria in August 2017 so Cason and Jolie can attend Hillcrest International School. Lenny will be the new Communications Specialist for SIM Nigeria while Patrice will continue to be the project manager for C.A.R.E. Africa and Spring of Life HIV/AIDS clinic.  Please keep the Miles family and their service in prayer!  For more information on the Miles family check out any of the following links:

Right Now Media

If you are looking for Bible studies, Right Now media is a great FREE tool available to everyone at Live Oak!  This resource has thousands of video Bible studies for all ages.  If you have not requested a log in yet, please click here to do so.  In the Fall we will be referencing Right Now Media studies in conjunction with our House Churches, so be sure to get your log in!

Change is Good

Beginning July 16th we will no longer have paper bulletins to distribute on Sunday mornings.  In an effort to "go green" we have decided all announcements will be in The Minute video prior to each service or available on our app under The Weekly.  If you like to take notes during the sermons, you can download the You Version app and sermon notes will be available there.  Or you can always go "old school" and bring a note book to take notes!

Our next Apostle's build date is July 26th, from 8:00 until Noon.  If you are interested please contact Christy Long at clong@hargray.com.  No specific skills are needed and anyone over 16 can help!  Habitat for Humanity will provide the training and the tools.

Philippians

This summer Pastor Michael and others will be teaching on Philippians.  Please take the time to read through all four chapters several times over the summer.  We recommend trying a different version each time.  This may help you understand something better or give you a little different perspective on the reading.  A simple way to do this is to download You Version on your iOS or Android device.

For the Fatherless

Join us on Saturday, June 24th, at 7:00 at the church office for another living room style, acoustic performance.  This time For the Fatherless along with Jonathan King will be performing.  Cost is $5.00 at the door.

Philippians

Here's a great video overview of the book of Philippians.  Take a few minutes to watch.  As a reminder, Pastor Michael has asked each of us to read through Philippians 5 times this summer.  A great way to do that is to download the You Version App.  This app will allow you to read a different version each time.  Check it out if you haven't already.  It's also a great way to take notes on a Sunday morning!

Engagement Pathway

If you have been at Live Oak any time, you have probably heard us talking about our Engagement Pathway.  This is just a fancy name for the best way for you to get connected!  It's a 3 step process that runs about every 9 weeks, although we do take the summer months off.  Our next Pathway starts this Sunday with a Guest Lunch.

Our Guest Lunch, really is just lunch.  Come over to the office (14 Palmetto Way) after the 3rd service, bring the family, and have lunch on us!  Pastor Michael will be there with his family and typically one of the Elders or other leader in the church will be there.  We just want to get to know you while you get to know us.  We believe the best way to get to know each other is around a table!  If you haven't registered for lunch this Sunday, you can do it now.  Just click below.

The next step on the pathway is Baptism Sunday (May 28th).  If you have accepted Christ as your personal savior but have never been baptized or you were baptized as a child, but now want to claim your faith rather than your parent's faith we would LOVE to celebrate this step with you.  We will be baptizing folks on Sunday, May 28th, after each service.  Click below on Baptism if you are interested in being baptized.

And the last step is our Launch Class or membership class.  This is a 90 minute class presented by Pastor Michael, on May 30th, at 6:30pm.  You will come away from the class with information on our history, our beliefs and our vision.  You can make a decision that night to become a member, or if you need to think about it that's ok too.  We want you to have all of the information, ask questions, and address any concerns you may have before you become a member.  This class will also give you information on volunteering, house churches, and Bible studies.  To register, just click below on the Launch Class button.

Hopefully this Loop has explained each step a little better to everyone.  If you have questions, please let us know.

Breakfast at the High Schools

Family Promise

Live Oak partners with Low Country Presbyterian Church several times each year in hosting the families involved with Family Promise.  This June, Family Promise is trying something new!  They are going to keep the families at the host church for a 2 week period rather than 1 week.  In order to that though, we need volunteers!  We are looking for folks to provide dinner 4 times over the 2 week period.  In addition, we need people to spend the night at Low Country Presbyterian 4 times as well.  Staying over night is one of the easiest serving jobs you can have!  Really!  You bring your bedding and sleep on a REAL bed in a separate room.  You can read, watch movies, play video games, whatever!  This is a great serving opportunity for house churches to provide and serve dinner.  If you are interested, contact Judy Frost at jafrst58@gmail.com.

Help Needed!

This Saturday join us at the church office at 10:00am to hand out invitations to our neighbors in Bluffton Park and Hidden Lakes.    We need folks with trucks to come and help.  We will load up some coolers with Gatorade and water and walk around the neighborhoods.  Bring your kids!  It is an easy service project.  We are not knocking on doors, we will simply be placing invitations on door frames.  It's supposed to be sunny and warm so why not get out and walk!  Please join us!

On Easter weekend we will once again be collecting shoes for Soles4Souls!  Bring in shoes that you have outgrown, don't like any longer, or are ready for the trash can.  Soles4Souls will take the shoes, clean them up or repurpose them, and provide to people in need.  Ask your neighbors to donate as well.  We want to collect over 1200 pairs of shoes this year and we can only do that if you help.

God is Able - Ladies Living Room Study

Got an IMPOSSIBLE situation? The anxiety it brings can wake you in the middle of a needed night’s sleep and then stalk you in the middle of broad daylight. It can sneak up on you and cast a cloak of fear and concern over your shoulders that you can’t seem to shake no matter how hard you try. It can take you down. Squash all hope. Stop you in your tracks.
IMPOSSIBLE. IMPENETRABLE. UNCHANGEABLE. Maybe so . . . until God gets involved. No matter the details of your circumstance, His raw power potential and immeasurable ability refuse to cower in the face of any challenge. Nothing is impossible with God. Nothing. Not even that thing.

This study will be held on various days, at various times, and various locations.  Check it out here and see which one fits your schedule.

Crazy Love - Bible Study

Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts — it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same.

Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

Join Charlie Dray, as he leads this 10 week study on Sunday mornings at the church office, beginning February 26th, at 11:15am.  You read that correctly!  Sunday mornings!  So you can take advantage of childcare taking place during our third service at Bluffton School of Dance.

This study is open to everyone, however, you must register to attend.  Spaces are limited so register early!  The book and workbook are required to attend this bible study.  The cost is $20.00 (per person or couple).  The books will be provided at the first class.  If you are not financially able to pay the registration fee, please contact the church office for assistance.  You can register here.

KAIROS COOKIES NEEDED

Several of our men will be going behind the fence at Ridgeland Correctional Facility to serve at Kairos.  In addition to prayer and financial assistance, they need COOKIES!  Below is the specific recipe to use for Kairos.  The cookies need to be delivered to church on Sunday, January 8th.  Please bag cookies in quart size ziplock bags.

Chocolate Chip

3/4 cup Crisco shortening
1-1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar 2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg

1-3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Combine shortening, sugar, milk and vanilla in a large bowl, mix until well blended. Add egg and mix well. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt and baking soda, mix well. Add to shortening/sugar mixture until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Makes 3 dozen cookies.

GREEN BAG SUNDAY

Be sure to grab a green bag this Sunday.  Instead of non-perishables for Bluffton Self Help this month, we will be collecting Vitamins (NO GUMMIES) for adults and children.  Pastor Michael & Carmen Marflak will be going to India in February on a mission trip with Care India and they have requested they bring as many bottles of vitamins as they can!  Let's help fill their suitcases.  Our goal is 100 bottles of vitamins.
